SUMMER BETTER THAN OTHERS

Camp Discovery Day Camp

IT'S OUR 10 YEAR ANNIVERSARY! Over the past decade many campers, families and staff have created life-long friendships, and memories while experiencing all that Camp Discovery has to offer. We are very excited to share this important milestone with our camp family this summer.
The perfect setting for your child to spend summer days and maybe even some summer nights - Camp Discovery is located at Upper Twin Lakes in Harriman State Park just minutes away from the top of Route 6.

Each year, since its opening, Camp Discovery continues to grow. This rustic and wooded area spans many acres and includes cabins, a dining hall, buildings for special activities, a basketball court, along with boating and swimming in Upper Twin Lakes.

Bus transportation is available with pick up times at 7:00am or 8:00am and drop off times at 5:00pm or 6:00pm at Central Valley Elementary School or the South Orange Family YMCA in Monroe.  If you would like to drop your child at Camp you can, but not before 7:30am and pick up is no later than 5:30pm.

making friends
Pioneers
Ages 5-7

Every child looks forward to a summer of fun. At Camp Discovery, Pioneer campers enjoy a summer jam packed with stimulating activities and adventures. Our Pioneers participate in all the traditional and even some not so traditional camp activities such as swim lessons, arts and crafts, sports, dramatic arts, nature, gardening, and music. The Camp Discovery experience teaches campers to appreciate diversity, improves their social skills, and helps develop leadership skills while having fun making lasting summer camp memories.

outdooradventuresAdventurers
Ages 8-12

Each day Adventure campers explore new things and partner with other campers to forge new friendships. Nature, arts & crafts, sports, games, drama, special events, swimming, boating and environmental education activities fill a typical camp day. Adventurers build confidence through participation in both individual and cooperative challenges. Group dynamics will be part of the day; problem solving as a team and realizing the positive results of cooperation. Hikes through the hilly terrain of our beautiful wooded camp encourage your   child to appreciate the outdoors as they learn to read a compass while maneuvering through the woods. We also have some special activities planned such as Color Wars, talent shows, cook outs and family events.

fishingLeaders in Training (LIT’s)
Ages 12-15

What better way to keep teens active throughout the summer then to enroll them in a summer program where they will learn important life skills including the skills needed to become future camp counselors. LIT’s spend most of their day shadowing our camp counselors learning to mentor and provide assistance to young campers but there is also plenty of time for them to build positive relationships with their peers. At Camp Discovery, our LIT’s will participate in activities that focus on personal growth, build self-confidence and encourage team work.

Totally Trip Week
Ages 6-12

Totally Trip Week is unique in that both Pioneers and Adventurers can participate. During this week we’ll be venturing out each day on exciting field trips to the Bronx Zoo, Quassy's Amusement Park, Wax Museum, a New York Yankee Game and Funplex. (Trips are subject to change). To participate in this program your child must attend at least one session of our summer camp or be in our Club Kid program.
