STRENGTHENING COMMUNITIES WITH TEEN ADVOCACY
The New York State YMCA Youth & Government Program provides high school teens with the opportunity to use their
thoughts, voices and actions to make a change. The program is dedicated to teaching young people to use the democratic
process to affect change that has an impact on their individual communities and around the State.
RESEARCH an issue of concern
PROPOSE legislations
PRESENT it before an assembly of peers
This is a great opportunity to test problem solving and communication skills. Attend a State Conference in Albany with teens
from around the state in the State and Assembly Chambers and Judicial Courtrooms to debate proposed changes.
Lobbyist – Journalist – Youth Attorney – Legislator
One person may not be able to make a difference , but collectively, concerned teens around the State have the power to make a noise that
CANNOT BE IGNORED!
