Cam Scali

Our April Member Spotlight is on Cam Scali. She has been a member of the Y for a little over 3 years. She originally started coming to the Y as a way to get started on her wellness journey, both physical and mental, and quickly fell in love with the community and the support from staff and members.

Cam’s Y Story:

I started coming to the Y because I needed to get into a healthy routine and other methods and gyms I had tried were not working. I needed a place where I felt comfortable as I was nervous about coming to the gym that I would be judged and wouldn’t fit in. The Y staff has played a huge role in my fitness journey and always kept me wanting to come back to workout. Everyone is always so encouraging and I had no fears about asking for help with machines or certain exercises. The other members were also so supportive as well. I started taking classes as it kept me motivated and consistent and through that I have made many connections with other members who I would see every week in class. They noticed when I wasn’t in class and would show concern the next time I came in. This, along with the wonderful instructors would keep me coming back week to week for classes.

The Y community has also helped me to push past what I thought was my potential, I knew I always had the physical potential but was always a bit afraid to try new things because of anxiety. I always struggled with cardio, but in the past year, with the help of the Y trainers and other members I was able the complete the Ruthie Dino 5K last June and the Indoor Tri in February. When I started my fitness journey I was so focused on just losing weight, but now my focus is on staying healthy and consistent with my workouts. The Y has also helped me to be comfortable trying new things that I never thought I could do and I have seen a huge improvement in my mental health by being able to come to a gym where I feel supported and cared for by both the staff and other members.
