TIME FOR CHANGE
Floor Plan

The YMCA has been leasing the portion of the building on Gilbert Street that has served as our home since 2011 but that’s all about to change.

We have spent the last six years listening to the growing wants and needs of our now 8,500 members. Although we have managed to accommodate most requests within our existing space, we are limited as to what we can do to accommodate the more extravagant requests that require dedicated facilities, such as lap swimming and organized sports.

When the Y first entered into contract to lease a portion of the Gilbert Street building, we knew there was potential for growth within the building’s existing footprint for when the time came that we needed it. That time has come. So, we are excited to announce that the Y is purchasing the entire building, making the South Orange Family YMCA a permanent fixture in Monroe and reaffirming our commitment to improving the quality of life in the region—but that’s not all.

With this purchase comes even more exciting news—The purchase provides us an additional 20,000 square feet to build a swimming pool, locker rooms, a full court gymnasium and additional program space to address the growing and ever changing needs of our members and the community.

In order to make this plan come to fruition, the Y will rely on financial support from members and friends to raise $600,000 toward the overall project cost of $2 million.
