ALWAYS HERE FOR
The YMCA of Middletown is a community based not for profit organization dedicated to putting Judeo–Christian principles into practice through programs that build a healthy spirit, mind and body for all.
Our YMCA Association began its service to the City of Middletown in 1882, and over the subsequent 134 years, expanded to serve all of Orange County and Southern Sullivan County. Although our name indicates our historical beginnings at our main branch at 81 Highland Avenue in Middletown, it does not adequately reflect all that we do within a 30 mile radius of our association's headquarters.
Currently, we operate primarily out of three facilities including our main branch and association headquarters in Middletown known as the YMCA of Middletown, the South Orange Family YMCA (nicknamed "SOFY") in Monroe, and The Center For Youth Programs in Middletown- the new home of our First Step Preschool, our summer day camp in Middletown and many other youth programs.
Thanks to a wonderful grant made possible by State Senator John Bonacic, supplemented by funds raised locally, we built the YMCA of Sullivan County, a three thousand square foot family center serving families in Sullivan County and drawing families from Orange County to the great outdoors.
In addition to these four facilities, we conduct a before & after school program known as Club Kid in over 20 schools throughout Orange County and operate 5 summer day camps: Camp Funshine in Middletown, Camp Discovery in Harriman State Park, Camp Robbins in Walden, YMCA Town of Thompson Camp at the Town of Thompson Town Park and Preschool Summer Camp at the South Orange Family YMCA.
The success and longevity of our YMCA is truly generated from a complex partnership of our mission driven staff and dedicated community volunteers made up of our Board of Directors, volunteer coaches, and special event volunteers. Together, our staff and volunteers positively change the lives of:
Our YMCA Association doesn’t just look at statistics to measure the extent of our community impact. We focus on the depth of impact we have on each child, teen, adult, family and community we serve. With that said, the above mentioned numbers only give you a glimpse of just how far-reaching and impactful our programs and services really are. In addition to the direct impact our YMCA has on the lives of our own members, special event participants and program participants we also provide free space to numerous fellow not for profit organizations enabling them to reach and serve more people. We also work closely with numerous community partners such as school districts, local not for profits, municipalities, local businesses, the Chamber of Commerce, local service clubs and faith-based organizations.
As a 501 (c) 3 not for profit organization, community support is a necessary ingredient in making our YMCA's programs and services available to those in need. For every dollar contributed to the Y, we have traditionally provided almost three dollars of service.
The YMCA has three primary areas of focus: Youth Development, Healthy Living, and Social Responsibility. Every program or class we offer, every initiative we launch, and each fundraiser we organize is intended to make a positive impact in one or more of these critical areas. Simply put, the YMCA helps make this region a better place to live and we hope you will join us in our effort.
We encourage you to utilize the web site to dig even deeper into our YMCA by exploring programs, services and special events available at each of our locations, and reading the stories of those whose lives we’ve touched.
Please stop by any of our locations to experience the Y for yourself. We look forward to meeting you!
