Youth Aquatics

The goals of the Under Three Program are to increase the level of trust between parent and child in the water, to create a positive experience for the child in the water, and to introduce basic aquatic safety. This program helps parents form reasonable and healthy expectations of their child's progress through song, games and fun activities. Class focus is on fun, exercise, parent education and water adjustment. Classes are 30 minutes long.

Child Program
In the Preschool Aquatics Program, children develop fundamental swimming skills. These skills can be used in water recreational activities that they will enjoy when they are older and help to form a foundation for swimming as a lifelong physical fitness activity. This program is without parental participation. Classes are 30 minutes long.

GYM & SWIM:
Parents are welcome to join in with the gym activities. Children will enjoy a variety of activities, sports and games followed by a 1/2 hour of swimming lessons where they are grouped by ability. Children must be 3 by the start of the first class and potty trained. A snack will be provided.
 
PROGRESSIVE PROGRAM (6-15 years)

The National YMCA Progressive Swim Program includes personal safety, stroke evelopment, water sports and games, personal growth and rescue in the following levels:

POLLIWOG: Designed for children who cannot swim alone or are uncomfortable in the water. This level will teach water adjustment, front and back float, beginner stroke and water safety. Bubbles are used when necessary.

GUPPY (1): For those who have passed Polliwog or can swim one length beginner stroke and one length back stroke without flotation device. This level will focus on beginner stroke front and back with rotary breathing, introduction to elementary back stroke improvement, treading water and endurance.

GUPPY (2): For those who have passed Polliwog or can swim one length beginner stroke and one length back stroke without flotation device. This level will focus on beginner stroke front and back with rotary breathing, introduction to elementary back stroke improvement, treading water and endurance.

MINNOW: For those who have passed Guppy or can swim two lengths beginner stroke with rotary breathing and two lengths kicking and swimming on their backs. This level emphasizes the perfection of front and back stroke, introduces breast stroke and endurance.

FISH: For those who have passed Minnow or can swim four lengths of crawl stroke and back stroke continuously. This level will focus on breast stroke, kick, dolphin, refinement of existing strokes and increasing endurance. Butterfly is introduced.

FLYING FISH: For those who has passed Fish or can swim two lengths of breast stroke, butterfly, back crawl, front crawl and endurance.

SHARK: For those who have passed Flying Fish, or can swim two lengths of breast stroke, butterfly, back crawl, and elementary back stroke. This level will focus on the side stroke, lifesaving skills and start and turns.

 
HOME SCHOOL SWIM LESSONS

For home school students only.  Designed for Pike & Eel levels (non-swimmers).

Ages - 3-5

Friday - 1:30 - 2:00pm

 
SIBLING SWIM CLASS

Class Requirements: This swimming class  is for siblings whose brother and/or sister is enrolled in the Monday & Wednesday Shrimp parent tot class.  The class is unique because it enables parents that have a second child to have swim lessons at the same time as their sibling. 

Ages - 3-5

Monday - 10:30 - 11:00am

 
LOG ROLLING (NEW)

This is a new unique program designed to teach individual balance on an actual log.  Students will learn feet and arm movements to enable individuals to actually roll on a log.  Fun water shoes are required to participate. 

Ages - 8-12

Wednesday - 5:30 - 6:15pm

 
YOUTH COMPETITIVE STROKE

Fish to Shark level only. This class is for the swimmer who is interested in increasing endurance or in the competitive swim team.  Review of four competitive strokes: front crawl, back, breast and butterfly. starts, turns and finishes.

Ages - 6-15

Tuesday - 6:15- 7:15 pm

 
YMCA BIRTHDAY POOL PARTIES

Ages 6 and up

Tired of cleaning your house before and after the party? Let us help you.  The Y will provide a party coordinator who will decorate the room, greet guests, collect gifts and help distribute your refreshments.   All you need to do is bring your refreshments and birthday cake. Parties must be booked at least two weeks in advance and are subject to availability.  The party will consist of one hour in the pool with a certified lifeguard and one hour in the party room.  Parties are either on Saturdays or Sundays from 2:00 - 4:00 pm.  Parties are limited to 15 children.

AQUACIZE: A water exercise program that increases your flexibility while toning. Low to high impact workouts. Non-swimmers welcome.

AQUA-JOGGER: A great new cardio wowrkout that's lots of fun! A deep-water aerobics class. Floatation belts are worn. Recommended for intermediate and advanced swim levels.

Both of the above programs are great for those suffering from arthritis, back pain,
or who are overweight.

ADULT BEGINNER LESSONS: (ages 16+) This class is designed for non-swimmers. Students will learn the proper techniques in tuck, glide, front crawl, back crawl, elementary backstroke, treading water, and swimming the length of the pool. An 8-week program.

ADULT INTERMEDIATE LESSONS: (ages 16+) This class is designed for intermediate swimmers who want to refine and improve their swimming strokes. An 8-week program.

 
SPECIALTY PROGRAMS

FAMILY YOUTH SWIM: Children ages 5 & under must be accompanied in the water by an adult member in Recreational Swim. Children ages 6 & up who cannot swim must use a flotation device and an adult must be present. All family swim participants must be members or paid guests. Any child 12 and under must have an adult present on the deck.

LAP SWIM: We do our best to provide lap swim at convenient times for all. Please let us know what we can do to make lap swim for accessible for you.

OPEN SWIM: This time slot is available for swimmers, exercisers, and home school families who may not choose to lap swim. Any child 12 and under must have an adult present on the deck. One Lane Only.

PRESCHOOL RECREATIONAL SWIM: Parents with young children can explore the water, play and enjoy the water together. Parents must accompany with children. Ages 6 months to 5 years old.

PRIVATE SWIM LESSONS: Private lessons are available by appointment for adults and children. Please contact the Aquatic Director, ext. 241, to arrange a lesson.

100 MILE SWIM CLUB: Swim your way to fitness. This is an excellent way to keep fit and have fun swimming. Keep track of the number of laps you swim daily, and we will record it on a chart for you. Those who reach 100 miles will receive a terrific Y t-shirt. See the Aquatic bulletin for more information.

STANDARD FIRST AID WITH AED:  This course gives individuals in the workplace the knowledge and skills to recognize and provide basic care for injuries and sudden illnesses, including using automated external defibrillator (AED) for victims of sudden cardiac arrest.  One Day Course.

ADULT/INFANT CHILD CPR WITH AED:  This course is designed to give individuals the knowledge and skills necessary to recognize and provide basic care for breathing and cardiac emergencies until advance medical personnel arrive.  One Day Course

CPR FOR THE PROFESSIONAL RESCUER/OXYGEN ADM:  This course is designed to give individuals the knowledge and skills necessary to recognize and provide basic care for two men CPR and provide basic cardiac emergencies.  This class is for all lifeguards.

Wednesday & Thursday     December 19th & 20th     5:00 pm - 9:00 pm

AMERICAN RED CROSS AND YMCA LIFEGUARDING :  Must be able to swim 500 yards non-stop using front crawl, breast and sidestrokes.  Upon completeion of the course, you will have certification as a YMCA lifeguard, which is good for two years.  Including First Aid, CPR-FPR/AED/O2. 

For ages 16 and up

Class meets on Friday in the classroom and Thursdays in the pool. 

Class begins: Friday, October 5th @ 6:00 pm.

ADULT STROKE CLINIC :  For anyone 18 and over whois interested in swimming on a competitive level.  WWe will work on strokes, turns and starts.  Plus will compete with other clubs.

Monday & Wednesday - 8:00 - 8:50 am

PRENATAL AND POST NATAL WATER EXERCISE:  This program is designed for pregnant woman to increase cadiovascular edurances, muuscle endurance and flexibility.  Includes improved circulation exercise so that you can get in better shape for labor and delivery.  It is a very caring group that will discuss and share feelings with other moms.  Make new friendas and it is Fun!  Class is taught by a certified instructor.  You must provide a doctors note to participate in this class.
