Child Watch is a free program that allows adult family members to drop off their children in a fun, safe and age appropriate environment, while parents participate in YMCA activities and work-outs. Child watch is for YMCA members only. Who is this program designed for? Age limits vary by branch. This program is designed for only temporary care of children, so we do ask that you adhere to the two hour maximum. In addition, though we allow children of all ages under the age of 12 to visit Child Watch, we have limited entertainment and activities for children ages 7 and up. So we encourage that older children bring a safe and appropriate activity with them. Who is the staff of Child Watch? The Child Watch staff is typically local residents that have had previous experience working with children. The program is overseen by one of our Program Directors. Our Director assures that staff is properly screened and trained. At least 1 staff will be CPR and First Aid certified. Generally we attempt to maintain an 8:1 ratio during program hours; however we do attempt to satisfy everyone’s needs. What is the normal procedure for starting my child in Child Watch? When you first visit Child Watch we will ask that you fill out a short information sheet. This will help us to get to know your child better. We then need you to sign your child IN and OUT at all times. Please make sure that you write legibly. We want to be able to account for you and your child should there be an emergency. Make sure that you put both your first and last name. When signing in your child, please specify where you can be located in the building. If you will be in multiple places, please designate them. Please be reminded that the Child Watch time limit is 2 hours. If you are working out for any length of time, please stop back from time to time to check on your child. At no time can you ever leave the facility when your child is in our Child Watch area. Please understand that we will work with your child if they have problems adjusting to our program, however if your child continues to cry for more than 15 minutes we will ask you to come back to Child Watch and try another day. Please take note that you are not allowed to bring in any child that is not designated on your family membership. This includes friends and relatives. Is food permitted in the Child Watch area? Should you want to send your child with something to eat, we ask that you provide just a small snack and beverage (NO glass, please). All items that you bring for your child must be clearly marked with your child’s name. Though we will feed infants their bottles, we will not feed any actual meals. For toddlers and older, we will set up their snack and monitor them as they eat. The YMCA is aware that some children harbor allergies and with children being so young, it is possible that in some circumstances, these allergies have yet to be determined. Because of this, we ask that all parents refrain from bringing in items that contain peanuts. We understand that this may be an inconvenience for some; however the safety of every child is our primary concern. The YMCA will do everything possible to keep this area secure, but because we are a drop-in area it is not possible to guarantee that the room will be completely peanut-free. But please make every effort to alert our Child Watch staff of your child’s allergy issues, so we can take extra precautions to ensure their safety. What is the Child Watch policy on illness? It is our goal to keep everyone as healthy as possible. This can be challenging when so many families will be using Child Watch. But the staff will be doing their part by disinfecting toys and play areas regularly and we ask that parents do their part as well. So for the benefit of all the children, families and staff, please do not bring your child to Child Watch if your child: Has had a fever within the past 24 hours. Has any discolored nasal discharge. Develops a deep cough. Develops diarrhea or has vomited within the past 24 hours. Has any unusual discharge or redness of the eye. Has any unexplained rash. Has been exposed to any communicable illness. Complains of not feeling well. What is the Inclement Weather Policy for Child Watch? Please note that Child Watch follows the schedule of the Middletown School District as it regards our AM Child Watch hours and inclement weather. So if the Middletown School District:... Has a 1 hour delay, Child Watch delays opening by 1 hour. Has a 2 hour delay, Child Watch delays opening by 2 hours. Is closed, Child Watch is not available that morning. Please note that if we need to delay opening Child Watch, we will not extend the hours that we are opened. Should the weather become inclement during evening or Saturday or Sunday Child Watch hours, please call to check if we are opened. Please understand that during questionable weather there may be limited availability. We strongly urge you to call the Y whenever weather is questionable. What should I expect my child to experience in Child Watch? Your child should experience a fun-filled opportunity for age appropriate socialization while being properly supervised. What should I expect to experience through Child Watch? You should experience piece of mind that your child is well cared for while you have the opportunity to experience all that the Y has to offer.
