The goal of our Arts and Enrichment classes is to expand young people's horizons. Click on any of the drop down boxes below to explore the various programs we are proud to offer our communities.
In Ballet, students will focus on proper terminology, musicality, and basic structure of classical ballet technique. Beginner students will learn how to properly stand at the barre, buidl strength, and use their bodies effectively to create muscle memory. This class wall also improve student's posture, flexibility, equal stretching of the legs and feet, balance, all while emphasizing proper alignment of the body. Regardless of ability, students gain self-confidence through the introduction of the fundamentals of dance.

The Chess Club gives students, ages 9-13, an opportunity to play friendly games of chess against their peers in a low-stress environment.

During Creative Movement classes children will begin to understand the concepts of direction, rhythm and dynamic changes. Fun activities will help children develop further concentration skills, basic motor skills, coordination and the ability to use their imagination. During classes for 2-3 year olds, parent involvement is required.

At this time our Drama program for ages 6 to 10 is only being offered at the South Orange Family YMCA. This program offers students an introduction to theater through acting, play writing, and learning the vocal ways to speak on stage. At the end of the session students will perform a mini play showcasing some of their own stage work and costumes.

This FUN and energetic class teaches students rhythm, coordination and the use of musicality. Students develop strength, focus and are challenged by upbeat choreography.

This admired style of dance offers a FUN physical workout during which students learn specific isolations of their body, build strength and flexibility, and enhance locomtove skills. Through our progressive program, students continue to work on isolations of their bodies, flexibility exercises and learn fun kicks, leaps and turns that will be incorporated when learning choreography.

Musical Munchkins has been offering their award winning classes for the past 18 years in Orange County and is now offering classes at the South Orange Family YMCA.
Come explore music and movement with your baby, tot, toddler, or preschooler through a wide variety of percussions insruments, xylophones, and delightful puppets and other props. Miss Andrea plays guitar and leads the singing, dancing, playing and movement within an age appropriate curriculum, designed just for little ones!
