SOFY - Group Exercise Program Descriptions

SOFY - Group Exercise Program


+/-       20-20-20

This class  is divided into various sections of workout activities:  20 minutes of heart pumping cardio, 20 minutes of Strength Training and 20 minutes of Abdominal work.  Get a full body workout in one action packed hour. All levels are welcome.

20-20-20

+/-       3-2-1

A circuit workout. Each circuit has about three minutes of cardio, two minutes of toning and one minute of core work. The cardio includes step, floor aerobics, kickboxing and more. The toning sections are each targeted at the legs, chest, butt, back, arms or shoulders.

 
 
 

+/-       Abs, Back & Posture

A straight forward program that focuses on your core and improves balance and posture. Muscle balance is necessary for good posture so exercises for the abs and lower back are included to help you maintain that balance between opposing muscles.

+/-       Aquacize

Water exercise classes are beneficial to everyone regardless of age or ability and are especially beneficial to those suffering from arthritis, hip and leg injuries, or who find it difficult to exercise on dry land. The biggest benefit to exercising in the pool is the amount of body weight the water takes off joints, making exercising with arthritic bones or even minor injuries much more comfortable for the participant. Individuals with any health condition should consult a doctor before participating.

Aquacize with Patty
This is a great cardio workout especially beneficial for individuals suffering from arthritis, hip and leg injuries, or who are overweight and find it difficult to workout on dry land.

Aquacize with Angie
This heart pumping class is great for anyone. Angie combines cardio and muscle toning exercises in a high intensity workout. This is a great workout for the entire body. Each session ends with a few minutes of stretching.

Aquacize with Nancy
This class has participants moving purposefully in the water and demonstrates how and why water exercise improves life outside the water. The class incorporates a cardiovascular workout to burn calories, yoga stretches to tone and strengthen muscles, as well as Ai Chi exercises to improve balance and promote relaxation. Various types of equipment, such as noodles and weights, are utilized throughout the class. Participants leave “ENER-CHIZED”.

Aquacize with Nina
Warning! This class will get your heart racing and every muscle in your body working. Come prepared to work those muscles you forgot you had. Nina keeps the class moving through a variety of cardiovascular and strength training exercises that keep your pulse elevated through the entire class.

+/-       Boot Camp Workout

This class is for anyone looking to improve their fitness level. Calisthenics, dumbbells, marching, steps, bands, gliding discs, are all used to get a total body workout. This high intensity class will help you take your body places it’s never been before.
 

+/-       Cardio & Abs

Get into that target heart rate zone by participating in 30 minutes of cardiovascular exercise followed by  15 minutes of abdominal exercise. All levels are welcome.

+/-       Cardio Caliente

This classoffers 30 minutes of  Salsa, Merengue,Cumbia and Reggetton dance movers followed by 30 minutes of body sculpting exercises. All fitness levels are welcome.

+/-       Cardio Kickboxing

This high-energy kickboxing workout is designed to get the heart pumping and muscles burning. This class will help sharpen your hand-eye coordination and teach you moves to increase your sense of awareness as well as speed and agility. kickboxing is a great way to strengthen your core. All levels are welcome.

+/-       Cycling

Come experience a fat burning, heart pumping ride on our Schwinn Indoor bikes.  You will experience hills and flate, pace rides and sprints, while being seated or standing.  This is a great way to get that cardio out of the way and kick up  your routine.  Please wear sneakers or cycling shoes (avoid shoes with a flexible sole), wear comfortable clothing, and bring a bottle of water and a small towel.

For those looking for soemthing a little different, try one of these other cycling classes:

Tuff Ride: A more challenging ride with longer songs, higher climbs and more intense endurance segments. Perfect for riders with cycle experience, but first timers are always welcome.

Video Cycle: watch videos on our huge projector and have fun working out to your own music.

+/-       Family Swim

Family Swim is a recreational swim time where families enjoy quality time playing together in our pool. Swim bubbles, noodles and  pool toys are available. Inflatable floats and rafts are not permitted in our pool.  Please view our pool schedule at the top of this page for the current Family Swim Schedule.

Please Note:
Children age 5 and younger must be accompanied in the water by an adult.
Children ages 6-12 who can swim independently must have an adult present on the pool deck at all times. 
Non-swimmers ages 6-12 must be accompanied in the water by an adult.
Non-swimmers are not permitted in the deep end of the pool unless wearing a lifejacket/bubble and must also be accompanied by an adult.
Swimmers will be evaluated by a lifeguard before being permitted to swim in water deeper than their own chest level.

+/-       Half & Half

Work up a sweat and burn fat using components from step, hi/lo impact aerobics, sport drills and strength training. This class uses a little bit of everything to whip you into shape. A high intensity, low to moderate impact class designed for all fitness levels. Class ends with abdominal toning and a total body stretch.

+/-       Lap Swimming

During lap swim, our pool is set up as a 4 lane 20 yard pool. Swimmers must be 18 & older unless they can swim at the Fish level or higher. Lap lanes can be split by 2 swimmers but if more than 3 swimmers are in any one lane those swimmers must circle-swim. The lifeguard on duty has full authority to create safe lap swimming lanes by organizing swimmers according to speed. Swimmers who wish to do stationary exercise may use the slow lane if space is available. Please view our pool schedule at the top of this page for the current available lap times.

Lap Swimming

+/-       Light & Lively

A class for beginners & the active older adult. Class includes light dance aerobics and exercise for fitness, flexibility, and balance.

+/-       Pilates

Condition the mind and body to strengthen the body’s core unit.  A series of exercises, using your own body weight, will help to develop strength, flexibility and better body coordination while improving alignment, and creating balance for more efficient movement.  This class is sure to leave you feeling refreshed and relaxed. Class is appropriate for all fitness levels.

+/-       Seniorcize

A group exercise class designed specifically for the active older adult. The class is led by two certified personal trainers who utilize the Cybex strength & cardio equipment, indoor track and physioballs. Benefits from this class will include improved: strength, flexibility, balance, cardiovascular endurance, and core stability. Oldies music sets the tone for this very popular class.

+/-       Step & Tone

Utilizing hand weight while stepping to themusic, simple step movements help keep your heart rate up while light handweights sculpt your total body.  This class will improve your cardio vascular rate.

+/-       Strength & Conditioning

This 45 minute class alternates between free weights, exercise tubing, stability balls or other strength training and conditioning activities.

+/-       Strength & Stretch

This class incorporates Pilates-based movement and stretch and strengthening exercises that will tone and firm your body like nothing else. All fitness levels are welcome.



 

+/-       Swimming Lessons - Private (3+ yrs)

Private lessons allow participants to work one-on-one with one of our swimming instructors and schedule sessions around a more flexible schedule. Private lessons can be arranged for either 30 minute sessions or 1 hour sessions. Please call the Aquatics Department at 845.956.1517 or speak to the swimming instructor of your choice to make arrangements.
 

+/-       Swimming Lessons - Teen & Adult (13+ yrs)

It’s never too late to learn. Lessons are available for every ability level, from the non-swimmer who is terrified of the water to the lap swimmer just looking to
improve their strokes. Classes meet once a week for 45 minutes.

+/-       Total Body Circuit

Boost your metabolism and get lean with our total body circuit  - single sets of exercises, back-to- back, station-to-station. Exercises will be alternated with cardio intervals. Class is appropriate for all fitness levels.

Will Power & grace is a sweaty, dynamic fusion of the fitness industry’s most popular (and most effective) group exercise programs. This 60 minute workout challenges all the major muscle groups by using the best weight room exercises like squats, lifts, presses, and curls. Fitness Yoga: A combination of Yoga and Fitness, this class keeps you motivated and challenges your muscles in different ways. It includes important flexibility-building poses along with creative blends of other exercise formats that provide cardio, strength and endurance. Blending exercise formats with yoga can provide students with variety im their workouts while giving them the benefits of yoga such as balance, coordination, relaxation, and flexibility.

Open Yoga: Open your heart, shoulders, hips, and back while strengthening and toning the arms and legs. This Vinyasa style flowing class incorporates a variety of strength building standign postures. You will also be introduced to breathing techniques as wel as mindfulness. All levels are welcome.

Power Yoga: The opportunity to push yourself a bit furhter. Using the breath as your guide, we will move through an invigorating practice that starts with sun salutations to create heat in the body. Work on strengthening, balance and finish with relaxation. Modifications are offered for those beginning their yoga journey.

Chair Yoga: This is a traditional Yoga class that uses a chair as a prop to help those who may be unable to move up and down with ease. This is perfect for people with Arthritis, who are pregnant, have limited range of motion or recovering from injury. This class will also incorporate the use of straps and blocks to increase flexibility. Portions of this class will also be done standing. All levels are welcome.

A blending of Yoga and Pilates.

+/-       Zumba

Zumba is a fusion of Latin and International music-dance themes that create a dynamic, exciting, effective fitness system! The routines feature aerobic/fitness interval training with a combination of fast and slow rhythms that tone adn sculpt the body.  Zumba utilizes the principles of fitness interval training and resistance training to maximize claoric output, fat burning and total body toning.  It is a mixture of body sculpting movements with easy to follow dance steps.

Don't be shy. We have a Zumba Gold class for the beginners. Zumba Gold has a little slower paced tempo for the de-conditioned/beginner or just not so coordinated. This class is designed to be easier to follow so come join the fun and prepare to sweat. Seniors are welcome.

Family Zumba is a fun way for families to stay fit together. We welcome children ages 6 and older.
